Vizume Concept Store 2018
The Vizume Concept Store is the 2nd Vizume storefront. Opened in June of 2016, the new location is a step away from the original storefront in more ways then just locale. With a bigger space, higher ceilings and a bigger window area, the Vizume Concept Store was a mesh between our original storefront concept and a new visual appeal.
The "concept" in the title symbolizes this meshing of ideas in what the designer wanted for the store. White walls and a concrete polished floor enclose the unit while the front window space allows for more natural light entry then the previous location. Still sticking to the playground theme of the original location, spots of neon, both white and colored, are located in the new storefront and the main lighting is provided by four custom built triangle lighting fixtures that emanate a bright white glow. Music has always been an influence in our store and the triangles represent the world wide symbol for the the "play button" as well as provide a guide from the front of the store to the back. With four triangles, the idea of "fast forward", and not just "play", is invoked. The lighting fixtures are met at the rear of the store with a floor to ceiling "plant wall" and hanging neon sign that serves as the backdrop for the gallery themed retail outlet and also a juxtaposition between nature and industry.
Staying in line with the gallery concept, furniture and fixtures in the store are very minimal, but none the less, important. Straying away from the perversely popular wood "heritage" look, the racks in the store are custom welded with only the necessary structural bracing. Other display pieces in the shop, as well as the dressing room, are also kept very minimal and made to convey a sense of evanescence. Similar to how quickly time moves and things pass, fixtures can be moved, adjusted and eliminated with minimal effort. Vegetation planted in steel pails can be found in the shop and also revisit the idea of nature industrialized.
Displays also carry more meaning then just product placement and the opening of the Vizume Concept Store featured a small "collage" of construction site items with the words "no expectations, no disappointments", half of the Vizume Concept Store's opening event theme, spray painted across the front of a broken piece of drywall.
The Vizume Concept Store is a far stray from the normal storefront concepts in its geographical locale. The mix of "neon playground", "minimal gallery" and "nature vs. industry" are not something considered "popular" here, but serve us well and stick to our original ideas.
